The InterAcademy Council recently issued two joint statements this week.
Twelve national science academies joined together in calling on the world leaders, particularly the G8 counties meeting in Russia in July, to tackle the problems of avian influenza and other infectious diseases through cooperative, global strategies. The academies also urged leaders to implement policies for improving the efficient use of energy and achieving sustainable and environmentally acceptable energy supplies for all nations. The IAC was established in May 2000 by all of the world’s science academies to mobilize the best scientists and engineers worldwide to provide high quality advice to international bodies.
