Team from TNO visits South Africa

Dr Gerard van Oortmerssen, the GRA Principal from TNO in the Netherlands together with colleagues from Zambia visited South Africa recently. Meetings were held with the CSIR, The Innovation Hub, the Department of Science and Technology, the University of Pretoria and the GRA Nerve Centre.
The visit to South Africa followed a site visit to Macha in Zambia where a low cost networking project is being piloted. The goal of the project is to provide affordable network access to more people by applying technology to the needs of developing countries, thus providing business opportunities and enhanced essential communication links for example, to the healthcare community. Discussions were held with CSIR South Africa regarding their involvement in this project.
